Elizabeth has signed a three-book deal with New Babel Books, the terrific independent press that published Setting Suns! New Babel is in the middle of a renaissance, with a number of new projects launching this year, and Elizabeth is happy to be a part of the New Babel family. Coming this year:
•A re-release of Setting Suns, the third edition of this wildly popular short-story collection with a new forward! This is the “entry drug” for Elizabeth’s work, a sampler of all the creepy Twilight-Zone-style stories she likes to write, and she’s very glad it will remain in print.
•An enthralling science-fiction adventure tentatively titled King of Swords! Elizabeth is madly writing this terrific and mysterious story about a space blockade runner being pursued by the bounty hunter who believes she killed his beloved wife.
•A new short-story collection titled Moonlight Sonata, which will include at least one story from the Sanctuary universe, at least three from Nocturnal Urges and at least two featuring Sgt. Shane Moore, the cop from the unpublished Yellow Roses who sees dead people. Because you wanted it and asked Elizabeth for it all the time!
More news...
•We’re sorry to report that Nocturne and Abaddon are going out of print due to the closure of Cerridwen Press. A limited number of trade paperpacks are still available from Ellora’s Cave Publishing and on LiteraryUnderworld.com, but once they’re gone, they’re gone. All three stories remain available as ebooks from Ellora’s Cave’s new Blush imprint, but there are currently no plans to reissue them in paperback.
•The release went very well for Blackfire, the sequel to the wildly popular zombie novella The Cold Ones! A tense, bloody story stretching from the dark shores of Nantucket to the cobblestone wharf of Memphis, you’ll sleep with the lights on after you catch up with Sara Harvey and her new team of critter-fighters. The first print run is sold out, so you have to catch it at the Afterwords Books signing on April 1 or wait for the next printing! Order now via LiteraryUnderworld.com to ensure your copy!
•Available now: an Aardvark Productions chapbook of Infinity, Elizabeth’s chilling new novella on a snowy road trip to hell. Order it here!
•FlamesRising reviewed The Cold Ones and loved it! “To say the story is scary doesn’t really do it justice... Ms. Donald does a very good job making her characters believable while avoiding most cliches found in supernatural fiction these days.” -- Bill Bodden of FlamesRising.com.
•The inestimable H. David Blalock reviewed Setting Suns. “Elizabeth Donald is one of the strongest writers it is my privilege to know. This book has a broad range of her fiction, showing her ability to write for any and all tastes, and showing her readers her human side through her notes and explanations. I came away from Setting Suns with a greater appreciation for her work, and a greater respect for the author herself.” Read the whole thing here!
•A review of THE COLD ONES from funnyman Jeff Strand. Elizabeth is not responsible for your keyboard, or for Jeff’s decidedly unwise mockery of James A. Moore. “I’d say more, but I don’t want to include spoilers and face Elizabeth Donald’s wrath, because based on this book I think she’s a biter.”
• A look at THE COLD ONES from Kym Lambert, founder of the Sarah Conner Charm School, in which she gives it the SCCS stamp of approval for strong female characters. “She targets in on what is actually the scary part of the idea of a zombie invasion... it’s the bite, it’s always the bite that’s really the scary concept. Donald gets that. Fear of death is nothing. Fear of what might happen after... to you or someone you want to be the same... that’s the disturbing thing.”
•In 2009, Elizabeth was elected vice president of the St. Louis Society of Professional Journalists and later was appointed to the SPJ National Commission on Ethics.
